In Control - "Self Titled" (RVL005) This is the final release from Oxnard's IN CONTROL. The 7" features 3 brand new exclusive songs and a re-recorded version of "He Fails Me' (originally on THE TRUTH HURTS LP on Indecision Records). The CD version has 5 songs, including the four songs previously mentioned, along with a re-record of FUEL THE FIRE, a song that originally appeared on "The Nard Curse" 7" that was self released by the band on Camel Clutch Records. Keeping with their tradition of keeping the PUNK in "hardcore punk", this new record doesn't pull any punches, covering topics ranging from the horrors of war to the frustrations surrounding the disintegration of the threat and relevance of hardcore punk today. Musically, this record stays true to the band's original Nardcore roots, but improves upon them tenfold, with songwriting that conveys feelings of anger, frustration, and introspection. This band has worked their asses off for four years, with four full U.S. tours under their belts, along with a few west coast tours. Unfortunately, such dedication to touring is becoming increasingly uncommon these days, leaving hardcore too much in the hands of the internet. This record is a culmination of all their hard work, and a testament that DIY ethics are still very much alive and viable in those of us that still have something to be pissed off about. I think the song FUEL THE FIRE pretty much summed it up back when they released their first 7", and it's still just as relevant on their final release... "We just want to play our hearts out and speak our minds, its not about the money or fame... A big FUCK YOU to anyone who said we'd never do anything. You've just added fuel to the fire...that keeps me going." Couldn't have said it better myself.
